- FrameDrumSchool.org presents:
2020 Velez/Sheronick Frame Drum Intensive
May 27-31 West Cornwall CT
There will be daily sessions on Tar, Bodhran and Riq. Students will learn the "Glen Velez Style" of playing. For the Bodhran we will be using hand techniques developed by Glen for playing a large frame drum...not the traditional Irish method which uses a stick.
For the Riq and Bodhran sessions we will break into two groups, beginner/intermediate and advanced. Each class will build on the previous, and the material will feed into our working compositions. We will end with a salon concert, all playing together, on the final evening.
The intensive will focus on 4 areas:
1) playing technique
2) rhythmic organization
3) tools for self creativity
4) experiencing the joy of group frame drumming
Our goal is to create an annual event that allows for an acceleration of the players frame drum technique as well as an evolving appreciation of the power and versatility of these amazing instruments.

About Trinity Retreat Center: The retreat center offers a place of gracious, authentic hospitality—where you can slow down, connect deeply with nature, experience the rhythm of a community, enjoy farm-to-table meals, discern direction for your life, and go home ready to make an even greater impact on the world.
After a year of renovations, the retreat center reopened in the fall of 2017. Located on the Housatonic River, adjoining more than seven hundred acres of conservation trust and state forest, the property includes 26 guest rooms, a historic stone chapel, a monastic garden, an orchard and working farm, a small donkey sanctuary, hiking trails, a community hall, meeting rooms, and quiet spaces for rest and reflection.
Transportation from NYC:
Trains to and from Metro North’s Wassaic train station run regularly out of Grand Central Terminal in New York City. The retreat center offers a courtesy shuttle bus for guests who need to be picked up and dropped off at the Wassaic station. Typically, the shuttle bus makes two pickup runs during the first night of a retreat and one drop-off on the last day of the retreat.
